You may be looking in the mirror, unable to recognize your own reflection. As we age, our skin tends to relax and cause more wrinkles and creases around the forehead, eyes and mouth. You may be considering a facelift, but aren’t sure you’re in the right age range for it. Here’s what you need to know before scheduling a consultation.
Facelift Basics
A facelift, technically called a rhytidectomy, is a facial surgery procedure to improve aging changes of the lower face and neck. These typical changes are usually facial sagging due to excess skin, jowl formation, deepening of facial creases and loss of facial volume. Other facial procedures to consider is eyelid surgery or a browlift, which help to further improve the aging changes to the face.
Is a Facelift Right for me?
If you’re a man or woman in good health and dissatisfied with your appearance, a facelift may be right
for you. This procedure is perfect for individuals who have had aging changes for a while or are just starting to show signs of aging. There is no right or wrong age to consider getting a facelift, but we typically see patients between 40 and 65 considering the procedure.
What to Expect During a Facelift
The surgery requires anesthesia and usually takes about two to four hours to perform. It is an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to go home afterwards. We recommend having a friend or family member stay with you for the first day or two to help out around the house. Although a facelift seems like it should be painful, it is relatively an easy procedure to recover from and is not very painful at all. It is normal to experience initial swelling and bruising which will fade over the next 1-2 weeks.
How Long Will the Results Last?
This is a very common question among patients considering undergoing a cosmetic procedure. Fortunately, the results of a facelift can last a lifetime! This, of course, depends on your natural aging process and how you take care of yourself and skin after surgery. However, we have seen our patients happy with the results of their facelift for years to come.
How Much Does a Facelift Cost?
A facelift is different for everyone depending on their signs of aging. Because the procedure varies from person to person, the price for the procedure also varies. Dr. Koger and his team will go over the cost and logistics of the procedure at your consultation. However, we offer financing options for our patients that allows you to break up your fee into smaller monthly payments that suit your lifestyle and budget.
Considering a facelift can be an overwhelming decision, especially if this is your first cosmetic procedure. We understand that and want to make sure all of your questions are answered.
