What is Facial Waxing?
Facial waxing efficiently removes unwanted hair from the face in one easy appointment. Common areas for facial waxing include eyebrows, lip, chin and full face. The trained professionals at Koger Cosmetic Clinic and Medspa offer facial waxing as a method to help perfect the shape of your brows in order to compliment the shape of your face while also removing excess or unwanted hair.
The Best Candidates for Facial Waxing
Any type of patient at any age is a candidate for facial waxing. If you feel self-conscious about unwanted hair, or seek a professional to tame your eyebrows, facial waxing is an easy and effective method for obtaining the appearance you’re looking for.
However, if you are experiencing one of the following conditions, it is recommended that you abstain from scheduling a facial wax:
- Active cold sores or warts
- Open wounds or lesions
- Sunburns
- Excessively sensitive skin
- Dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema
- Untreated skin cancer in treatment area
- Recent surgery in treatment area
- Recent permanent makeup in treatment area
Planning for Facial Waxing
Trained technicians at Koger Cosmetic Clinic and Medspa will consult with you prior to your appointment, as there are important considerations to keep in mind prior to any kind of facial wax. You should plan to allow for a couple of days between waxing and traveling, and ideally, it should not be your first waxing appointment. It is recommended that you schedule your first wax four weeks earlier, in order to see how your body reacts. You should postpone waxing if you have experienced the following:
- Rashes, allergies or sensitive skin reactions
- Accutane use in the past 12 months
- Radiation or chemotherapy in the past 12 months
Your Facial Wax
Your first wax may take a little longer than subsequent waxes since your body may react to the sudden departure of hair. Also, our trained staff will take more time to explain the procedure to you as they go. You may experience some discomfort during your first visit, and there may be some light bleeding where hair is removed. This is absolutely normal, and you can expect subsequent visits to become easier and less painful.
After Facial Waxing
It is important that you only use sunscreen that is mild and safe for your skin, with at least 30 SPF for the first one to two days following your facial wax. If your skin is hypersensitive to sunlight, it is recommended that you take extra precautions when spending time outside. Only doctor recommended moisturizers should also be used for the first few days after your procedure.
For the first 48 hours after your facial wax, it is recommended that you avoid the following:
- Scrubbing or exfoliating the skin
- Washcloths or other face cloths, loofahs or body scrubs that would cause extra irritation
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and chlorinated water
- Heavy exercise and sweating
- Retinols alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) or bleaching creams
- Sun exposure including tanning beds
- Touching waxed areas with dirty hands
