What Are IPL Treatments?
IPL treatments include a variety of skin rejuvenation techniques, from the classic IPL photofacial, to laser hair removal and more. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses broad spectrum light to treat hyperpigmentation, rosacea, sun damage, or in the case of IPL hair removal, get rid of unwanted hair follicles. At Koger Cosmetic Clinic & MedSpa, we use the Nordlys™ laser system for IPL treatments, thanks to its powerful Ellipse IPL™ technology. The Ellipse IPL™ system has improved the technology behind IPL treatments, offering faster pulses of light and advanced targeting strategies to improve results.
Nordlys Ellipse IPL™ Skin Rejuvenation
As we grow older, our skin changes. It becomes thinner and loses its smoothness, and unwanted pigmentation and small vessels can appear. Over time, sun exposure on your face, hands, arms and chest can accelerate the signs of aging. The Nordlys Ellipse IPL™ treatment rejuvenates your sun-damaged skin and makes it look clear and bright by delivering short bursts of light that directly target blood vessels or melanin within your skin.
The Nordlys Ellipse IPL™ skin rejuvenation system, as it is an effective solution for many patients who are looking to address cosmetic skin concerns with IPL technology and requires virtually no downtime.
Nordlys Vascular Lesion Treatment
Vascular lesions are collections of dense, small blood vessels that are located in and below the skin. They can appear anywhere on the body and can be caused by sun damage, genetics factors, rosacea or aging. Common vascular lesions include port wine stains, leg veins, broken capillaries, hemangiomas and scars.
We treat vascular lesions with either the Nordlys Ellipse IPL ™ or the Nd:YAG laser, depending on your particular condition and skin type. The system delivers pulses of energy that directly target vessels deep within the skin without affecting the surrounding skin.

Nordlys IPL® Laser Hair Removal
Using the same Ellipse IPL™ system from Nordlys™, we can provide permanent hair reduction in just a few easy treatments. This unique system emits intense pulses of light (IPL) directed at hair follicles, disabling them from future growth. This procedure requires no downtime, but multiple treatments are necessary to achieve desired results. You can learn more about this treatment and its benefits on our  hair removal page.
Nordlys IPL™ Acne Treatment
Acne occurs when your sebaceous glands overproduce an oily substance called sebum. When extra sebum gets trapped in your hair follicles, your skin can become irritated – leading to the appearance of pimples on your face. Left untreated, some types of acne can cause permanent scarring.
The Nordlys™ system treats acne by reducing the blood supply to the sebaceous glad to slow down the production of sebum. The system delivers short, safe bursts of Ellipse IPL directed at the skin and works in conjunction with your topical acne treatments.
The Best Candidates for IPL Treatments
If you suffer from irregular skin pigmentation, such as sun-damaged skin, freckles or age spots, struggle with acne, or simply wish to reduce large pores or the appearance of spider veins, you may be a candidate for the Nordlys™ IPL treatment. By scheduling a consultation with us, you can discuss one-on-one the treatments and options available to you, regardless of your skin type or hair color.
Fortunately, the Nordlys™ system and its Ellipse IPL™ technology is proven to be safe and effective for nearly all skin types, so most patients make perfect candidates for these IPL treatments.
IPL Treatment Procedure
Our laser technician will prepare your skin by applying a numbing cream to the treatment area. Then, with the use of the handheld Ellipse IPL™ device from Nordlys™, the technician will direct broad spectrum light into the tissues underneath your skin. This treatment is relatively pain-free, with the aid of the topical anesthetic. Multiple treatments may be needed depending on your expectations and personalized procedure that usually takes about 30 minutes or less.
After Your IPL Treatment
You can expect your skin to appear pink or a light red color, and possibly experience some mild swelling. But thanks to the advanced technology behind the Nordlys™ Ellipse IPL, you will be able to return home right after your treatment and wear makeup to cover up any redness. You can also expect to return to work immediately if you wish. Be aware that your skin will be sensitive to the sun and that you should wear sunblock if you plan to be outside.
